  5. ACBL - American Contract Brige League

  7. Advancer - Partner of an overcaller
  8.  
  9. Control - Ace is two controls, king is one.
  10.  
  11. Forcing to a limit situation - A call that forces the partnership
  12. to keep bidding until one of the following situations is reached:
  13.  
  14. -- The same suit is bid twice in succession by the partnership
  15. (direct raise). A delayed raise is not a limit situation.
  16.  
  17. -- The same suit is bid twice in succession by the same partner.
  18.  
  19. -- Game or slam is bid in an agreed suit.
  20.  
  21. -- A suitable penalty double is imposed on the opponents.
  22.  
  23. -- Notrump is bid. Exception: A 2NT response to a cue bid by a
  24. person who has not previously bid or doubled is forcing. 
  25.  
  26. -- The person who made the original force has inferentially      
  27. given partner a final chance to show any undisclosed values.

  31. Free Bid - A bid made when partner will have another chance to
  32. call. Free bids with really minimum hands are frowned upon,
  33. especially at IMP scoring or when vulnerable, but free bids and
  34. raises (even jump raises) may be quite weak over an opponent's
  35. takeout double.

  37. HCP - High card points, 4-3-2-1 point count, excluding distribu-
  38. tional or long suit points.

  40. IMP - International Matchpoints

  42. LHO - Left hand opponent
